moving a project to another machine

Hey,
I have copied a C# express edition project from another machine and have opened the project up and changed the connection string but the project is not updating the database when I try to insert values from textboxes in forms. They seem do be getting into the dataset but not the sql datatabase.
I am getting alot of messages saying that it could not find the schema information for the dataset. Could these errors have anything to do with the project?
What else do I have to change in the project?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, Yorick85

What kind of database were you using?

In general, please check the database permission to your local machine. And make sure that connection has been correct.

Thanks

|||Hi,

It depends on what is your connection string security mode, windows Authentication or sql server Authentication?

If it need user name or password in the Authentication, you should check the user and role in Sql Server Management Studio for particular database.

Thanks

Moving : AccessSQL Server 2005(Enterprise Edition) VB6—VB.Net

I am a new in .Net Environment. I am moving from VB to VB.Net and Access DB to SQL Server 2005. Please reply me the following questions bellow.

Access Works

SQL SERVER (SS)?

When I create .MSI file it include ADO library in that executable file and my client install software and don’t need any kind of file to install and wherever my program install it can be accessed by using following connection string.

Con.ConnectionString = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" & App.Path & "\db\PAYROLL_DB.mdb;Persist Security Info=False" Con.Open

What file needed on client’s PC to access SS on server.

What about connection string change dynamically in client sides

I create relation on Access Relationship Diagram.

Where to create these diagrams either on VB.Net Server Explorer or on Management Studio? And how?

Please answers me this basic questions further I have more question in mind but please first answers me these questions…

Hi,

What file needed on client’s PC to access SS on server.

What about connection string change dynamically in client sides

-You will just need a driver to access SQL Server like the ADO (included in MDAC) or ADO.NET (included in the .NET FW) or the SQL Server Native Client (SNAC).

Where to create these diagrams either on VB.Net Server Explorer or on Management Studio? And how?

I would create them in the SSMS, don′t know if the functionality is EXACTLY the same as in server explorer, but I am used to to it there, but from a short inspection of mine I would say that they are feature-identical.

Move SQL server to SQL server 2005 Express

I'm new in Express Edition.

We use SQL 2000 on our SBS2003.

For disaster recovery I installed SQL Express on a laptop.

How can I move database and application from SQL 2000 to

Eexpress edition?

Many thanks

Peter

One of the easy ways is to just do a backup and recovery, but I would also look at the upgrade adviser and make sure that the application can be upgraded. If you are doing the sharpoint databases from sbs you can use the sql express install system to upgrade the instance.

|||

Glenn.

Did you mean use SQL server 2000 backup utility to backup all Dbs then setup Express Edition, then use its recovery to restore

Dbs? One of my friend suggested just copy all .MDF and .LDF files, then use SQL server Management Studio Express to link them.

We don't use Sharepoint database.

Thank you for your attention.

Welcome your further advise.

Peter

Hi Peter,

Yes, you can backup using SQL 2000 and then restore using SQL Express just as you suggest. You can also just copy your MDF/LDF files into the Data directory for SQL Express and then use Management Studio to Attach those files.

In either case, the resulting database file in SQL Express can not be moved back to SQL 2000, the file formats are not compatible.

Mike

Hi Mike,

Thank you for your advice. It’s important to know “the resulting database file in SQL Express can not be moved back to SQL 2000, the file formats are not compatible.”

My project is for disaster recovery, in case of SBS2003, SQL 2000 running on it, down.

I have to restore database after SQL 2000 server comes back online. It looks like I can’t use SQL Express as backup.

Can I use MSDE? I think its data file format is same to SQL 2000. If it can, could you please let me know how to do that? Do we still need Management Studio to attach database?

Many thanks

Peter

Move MS SQL 2005 Express Edition Data Path

Hi!
I just installed Web Developer express edition on my Windows 2000 server

Move database to another partition

I have recently installed SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition on a server with 2
partitions. I then installed Sharepoint which installed a database and put it
in the default location on the c: partition. I would like to move this to d:.
I have tried to do this by detaching and attaching, and also by backing and
restoring, but both the attach and the backup dialog boxes only allow me to
browse the c: drive. Is this a feature of Standard Edition? Do I need to use
Enterprise? Or is there a configuration setting I can change somewhere?

Not sure why you can't browse your other drive, but a workaround would
be to not use the GUI to do this. Instead use the SQL commands to
detach/reattach the database:
EXEC sp_detach_db DBname, 'true'
Copy the files from C: to D:
EXEC sp_attach_db @.dbname = 'DBName', @.filename1 = 'D:\MDFFile',
@.filename2 = 'D:\LDFFile'|||Thanks. This highlighted an issue with the d: drive. Although
readable/writable through Windows I decided to reformat, and now it is
working fine.
Thanks for your help.

Move Database From Standard To Express

Our company uses MS SQL 2005 Standard for various databases. I've got the
Express Edition installed at home for doing work on the databases after hours.
Is it possible to copy/export the database from the Standard Edition to the
Express Edition and back?
What happens if the database is more than 4Gb?Hi
see the link bellow
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143393.aspx
it is not possible to do this.
What happens if the database is more than 4Gb
Server throws an error message saying that insufficient disk space or file
has reach its limit ,some thing like that.
in 2000 msde you can work around this by adding one more data file to the
file group. but i haven't tested this on sql express

Move Database and Relocate Transaction Logs

Hello,
We have just built a Windows 2000 Advance Server with SQL Server 2000
Enterprise Edition. We would like to move some databases off of an old SQL
2000 Server onto this new server.
Questions:
What is the proper procedure for moving these databases over?
Once the databases are transferred, how can we relocate all of the
transaction logs (master, model, tempdb and databases we have created) to
another drive?
Thanks,
JBaileyCheckout the Copy Database Wizard, you can specify where
the files get copied to. It doesn't copy system
databases, but should grab most relevant material from
them.

Questions:
Is it necessary to move the master, model, and tempdb over? Or can I just
move the databases we created? Is there dependencies user created databases
have on the default SQL databases that I should be aware of?
Thanks,

servers, sysmessages, sp_configure. In msdb, you have jobs, operators, alerts.
Only you can say whether above is a too huge job to do manually compared to try to get backup etc
over to the new server.
As for logins (which generally is the main issue), read in books online about sp_change_users_login
and you might want to use the GUI tool at www.dbmaint.com (free utilities).
