Moving an MSDE app to SQL Express

I have an MSDE application that I am trying to Move to SQLExpress without to
o
many changes. The application uses SQL Scripts to create logins, called
sp_addlogin. One of the logins that is created is a user with view only
rights to non_sensitive security parts of the schema. This user is created
with a null password.
With SQL Express sp_addlogin fails because the password does not meet the
complexity requirements. To assign a password to this login, the app would
need to be altered in ways that I would rather avoid at the moment. While I
understand that it is the long term correct way to go, is there a way that I
can get the scripts to both work on MSDE and SQLExpress with a null password
.
Or is my best bet to determine the version of the server and use CREATE LOGI
N
with CHECK_POLICY set to off
Thank You
LeslieIf you are willing to do the check and use CREATE LOGIN that would work, but
you are asking for trouble if you use a blank password.

I know it is asking for trouble. Unfortunatly the app was not written by me
and I don't have the ok from above to make the needed changes
Thanks again

Moved asp.net app to network share, cant access SQL

I've recently moved an asp.net website from my PC to a network share because another tech it going to be working on it. I finally got the correct permissions on the network share and the correct .NET Framework settings on my PC to be able to run the app. Now I can't access the SQL server which is on a different server. Getting the following error:

Request for the permission of type 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlClientPermission, System.Data, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed.

How to I setup access to my SQL server for the app from any given PC on my LAN?

Your current error is not SQL Server permissions but CAS(code access security) you have to fix that before, you can get the error related to SQL Server permissions if any. The two links below covers the issues related to your error. Hope this helps.

MS Reporting Services and Passing Credentials from .NET App

Expert Needed,
Is it possible to pass credentials from a .NET application into MS reporting
services?
For example we want to filter our data for our reports based on the user's
login into the .NET app.
Thank you in advance.
RichI am trying to do the very same thing from a .Net windows application and if
get it will post my results.

pass the user credentials. Alternatively, once the application
authenticates, it can use a single "trusted" Wi ndows account to connect and
authenticates against RS.

application a reference to Web Services that is installed on Server that had
Reporting Services. Then, you can use all the method that this web services
expose, as
ReportingService rs = new ReportingService();
System.Net.NetworkCredential cr = new System.Net.NetworkCredential(UserName,
Password, Domain);
rs.Credentials = cr;
I hope that this help you.

- i am login as administrator .

pls tell me what i can do ?

thank you all

Hi,

as you did not post any code, I can give you a common suggestion. If you use impersonation, you will have to use the credentials of the actual user and add it to the instantiated proxy of the webservice. This will make the call to the webservice under the credentials and the permissions of the impersonated user.

|||Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you don't do this then it uses the identity of the app pool under which the website runs which by default is network service for the default app pool|||yep.
